Admission to Candidancy
Formal admission to Ph.D. candidacy is requested after the student passes the preliminary examination as described on the examination page and has satisfied all other preliminary requirements including the research tool requirement (if any) and the graduate school residency requirement. The graduate school requires a residency of 24 credit hours on campus as a doctoral student in a period not to exceed four calendar years with no more than 6 hours of deferred dissertation credit applied. The request for admission to candidacy is made by the Chair of the student's graduate committee to the Dean of the Graduate School through the Director of Graduate Studies.
